Why I admire FairlyFearless

There are many things I admire about FairlyFearless. I admire her strength and determination in moving forward, no matter what life throws at her. I admire her wisdom, even more so because it was hard won. I admire her generosity in sharing it openly with the world. And I admire that she’s done what I dream of doing—making a life as a writer. I know with absolute certainty that it would be difficult to find a better role model.

Why I want to meet FairlyFearless

I want to meet FF because she is too cool for school.

Why I want to meet FairlyFearless

I think she has the most positively specific list on this entire site. I would encourage everyone to check it out. This is a person who knows precisely what they want.

Why I admire FairlyFearless

Because she has lived a life of joy, and loss, and adventure, and courage that I can only imagine. And she has come through it with tremendous grace and openness of spirit. Her willingness to bare her thoughts out in the open and share so bravely incredibly personal and intimate details of her life make all those who are blessed enough to share them a little improved for each communion.

Why I admire FairlyFearless

Her world presents a composite articulation and she seems to use 43things as a 43prosthesis in the sense of a perfect extension of her brain. I suggest to call it 43ffex (43 Fairly Fearless Extension). I can’t add anything else because at the moment I haven’t finished reading her extension yet (it may take a lot time…)

Why I admire FairlyFearless

her goals are so… thorough!

Why I want to meet FairlyFearless

I’m certain she and I could sit down over a nice cuppa in her kitchen, or mine, and talk an entire day away without exhausting our range of common subject matter.

There are days when I log in to 43Things and just wish that I could give her a long, warm hug.

There are other days when I wish she was here to give me one. :)

We live as far apart from each other as we can and still be on the same continent. That is intimidating to my body and common sense.

My heart, spirit, and uncommon sense tell me that distance is another illusion—she and I are one. :)

Why I admire Saafir

I just wrote the following (with different pronouns) in response to one of Saafir’s postings, and it occurred to me I wanted to say this here, too.

All his entries are thoughtful, deeply honest, and intellectually courageous. Saafir’s processes of mind and heart, and his ability and willingness to articulate them, spark my desire to do the same.

Why I like merraqabi

I’ve been foirtunate enough to meet M the way you may have: here.

She seems to really be working on that balance between self-love/self-acceptance, and pushing yourself to the next level. She is clearly centered on the process just as much as the goal, and she is not afraid of ethical inquiry, large or small (like her “personal rules” for 43T). She appears, from her list, to be both active and pro-active, and though she clearly has some health issues, you’d have to read her entries a couple of times to get that: no bitvhing and whining from that girl.

Clearly she has a loving and generous soul; clearly (to me at least) she has had life experiences which made her CHOOSE to grow in those lines rather than others. I like that she’s creative and thoughtful; that she takes goals zillions of people and puts her own original tweak to them (“Practice not-so-random acts of kindness.”)

Her journey (and the way she articulates it); her respect for, tolerance of, and interest in the journeys of others, among many others things, lead me to extend my not-so-random admiration for her.

Why I admire Sacha Baron Cohen

Being able to jive with and in different accents, personas, and contexts, made-up wholly or in part, improvisationally, has always been one of my FAVORITE ways to play, alone or with others (and every so often I have been fortunate enough to find true-blue right-up-there playmates in jive).

I found out about SBC, aka Ali G, aka Bruno, aka the guy from Kazakhastan whose name I am blanking on at the moment (ADDED LATER: Borat!!!), by fluke. I was browsing NetFlix one night. I don’t have a TV nor am I that up on pop culture… I had never heard of this guy and ordered his DVD strictly based on the description, because, as I say, this kind of humor is my kind of humor and just on the chance that this might meet my rigorous standards…

Let me just say that I now gently meet my own fist in the mirror some mornings with a muttered “Respek” or “Keep it real,” or inwardly respond to someone about whom I am dubious with “No doubt” or “So you say” , or remind myself, “Check yourself before you wreck yourself.” I am not a usual quoter-of-other-people’s-lines, preferring to come up with my own, but this guy… this guy… he is brilliant and has cojones of brass and I think compassionate despite getting people on the show to be interviewed who don’t have a clue what he’s up to (and often proceed to make idiots of themselves by strutting their own pomposity).

Love this guy. Just love him. No desire to meet him… I just hope HBO puts him back, or somebody else does, so I can keep ordering DVDs, inviting friends over to watch him, and almost laughing till I pee.

Ali G: Tell me what ATF stands for.

ATF guy: Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms.

Ali G: What else does you sell?

ATF Guy: We don’t sell anything.
(Goes onto explain how they use “canines” to detect bombs and is asked by Ali G such questions as “Why don’t you use dogs?” “Why don’t you use dolphins?” ”’Ow long does it take for one the dogs to take apart the bomb?” etc etc etc.)

Too bad words like ‘brilliant’ have lost allure by overuse. But this guy’s wry snap, ability to think on his feet while appearing simple-minded, language creation… ‘bookashah’, ‘poonani’... compassion and audacity… it gives off some kind of glint and it makes me laugh, laugh, laugh.

Even when a particular bit doesn’t work or makes me uncomfortable… I am filled with admiration. And joy that such original funny non-imitative minds are still out there, giving us their gifts.
